Who We Are

Westside School is based in the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, just off King Street and eight minutes’ walk from Hammersmith bus and Tube stations. It has a current capacity for 32 students, includes provision for children with AEN and spans years 7-11.

We offer  a short respite programme "Reactiv8" for student in Years 7 and 8 and a full time alternative educational provision for students in Years 9, 10, and 11 who have disengaged from mainstream education. Students are referred to Westside by their mainstream settings or by local authority agencies. The school offers a full-time GCSE programme of study, with each student sitting a minimum of 8 GCSEs or equivalent, including a range of vocational qualifications.

Reactiv8 is a short-term respite programme of either a half-term or a term, for Year 7 and 8 students who are at risk of exclusion from mainstream. The intention is that after the programme, the student can be successfully reintegrated back into mainstream school.  Each student is set individual targets both in terms of academic progress and behaviour.  On occasions Year 8 students remain at Westside and continue their education, if it has been decided that they would not successfully reintegrate back into mainstream. We take a maximum of 6 pupils per half term.

The focus of Westside is to support both the academic, personal and social achievement of our students. We also aim to equip our students with the necessary life skills to prepare them to become part of their communities, and progress to take advantage of the opportunities available post 16, including placements at local FE colleges and apprenticeships.

The school is managed by a Headteacher and a committed team of specialist staff, who are experienced in dealing with vulnerable and challenging young people. The school benefits from the support of an active and skilled board of school governors who are committed to lifting the educational opportunities of the young people.
