VLE is coming soon.

For Students

The Westside student has typically come from a disrupted educational background, or has been struggling at a large mainstream school.

For a variety of reasons, he or she may have rejected or missed out key aspects of learning, social skills and the usual building blocks of education.

He or she may have undiagnosed learning difficulties, low literacy and numeracy levels and may suffer from poor self-confidence.

Many have come to view mainstream educational establishments as threatening and adversarial places and may have a history of truanting or challenging behaviour.

Within weeks of arriving, the Westside student has left this previous life behind them. In small classes, responding to individual focus and regular one-to-one sessions, the calm and consistent environment of Westside helps the student to feel supported, settled and motivated. The next step is to improve their self-confidence, maximize their academic capacity and widen their ambitions.

“Westside caters for all our different learning needs; needs that were just not addressed in the mainstream.”

Inclusion

Westside is committed to removing all barriers to learning and to ensuring that every student achieves their full potential regardless of their gender, ethnicity, background, disability or religion. We believe that every pupil, whatever additional educational needs they may have, should have the opportunity of attending and participating in every aspect of life at the school.

"I soon realised that Westside is just one big, happy, but slightly dysfunctional family. The staff help us believe that we can do anything."
